September 19, 2016

Holy Smokes this was a killer week here in the Zoo. Just all around! We got a ton done this week, and as we worked hard, we were blessed. A lot. hahaha :) We taught the most lessons in this week than I ever have before, and still got the most finding time and service time as well. That alone was awesome just to work that hard, but the end of the week was what made it the best. So, a few weeks ago we set a date with our recent convert, Maria Lino, to go to the temple and do baptisms for the dead. the date that we set was September 17. So this week we spent a few hours with her in the family history center, and helped her prepare just a few names. She was so excited though to find those ancestors, it was awesome to see. I feel like a lot of us in the Church take that for granted. Especially when we think that our family history is already being done by random Aunt Sue. There is still so much for us to do, and the joy that we get from bringing those names to the temple and performing these ordinances for them is like nothing else. GET THE SPIRIT OF ELIJAH! It is dope.
But anyways, I don't have a ton of time, cuz I have to do a survey from the AP's... but I wanted to share how amazing the temple was this weekend. Maria was so grateful that we could help her ancestors with that. The coolest part was Elder Graves and I got to baptize each other for her grandfathers. She told us that she felt them accept that ordinance, all accept one of her grandmas, but she still was so happy that she could give her grandma that opportunity! I have not felt the Spirit in such abundance in a long long time. The Temple really is the House of The Lord. I absolutely love it, and it is the reason that Heavenly Father's plan of salvation is possible. How crazy is that? GO TO THE TEMPLE MY FRIENDS!!

September 12, 2016

This was a weirddddddd week let me tell ya.  Like the weirdest of my mission probably.  It all began on a dark, windy Michigan night while all the gangsters were out bumping their bass in our apartment's parking lot... Just like every other night... But on this very specific night, Elder Johnson caught a fat cold.  A cold that would bind him to the apartment for approximately 24 hours because he couldn't breathe or hear because his head was so congested.  It was a party for Elder Graves I am sure.  He did all his training for the week that day on his own haahahahah, my bad.  But luckily, that only kept us down for one day, and the rest we were able to go out and do work!  One of my favorite things that happened this week was while knocking.  We were in a little Ghetto neighborhood, and there was a house with 3 apartments in it.  As we walked onto the porch of this house, one of the windows flew open and they said, "Who !@#!@%!@ are you?!"  So we told them who we were, and they immediatley calmed down and invited us to sit outside their window in some chairs and talk with them!  We popped a squat, and began to talk with him.  Right off the bat, this guy told us that he had 4 personalities and was a psychic, and this dude had a lot of weed in his house... But during our conversation with him, he asked Elder Graves and I to "please turn down [our] auras of love, it is blinding [him] because it is too bright."  He was crazy, but I thought it was still a sweet compliment. Probably the best that I have ever gotten.

Later in the week, we woke up to a text that was pretty nuts! And this is also why the week was weird, cuz this does not happen every day!  Our investigator Jason texted us right before we woke up, and the text said "Hi, I just got hit by a car. Heading to the hospital. I will keep you updated."  Then he never replied to our texts or calls.  There are a couple hospitals here in Kalamazoo, so we went to the one closest to us, and asked if he was there.  Luckily he was, and he hadn't gone in for surgery yet.  We talked to him in the ER, taught him about Priesthood blessings, and gave him one upon his request.  We went back and saw him the next day to see how he was doing after his surgery, and he was doing awesome.  His surgery was a success too.  He had broken the ball of his shoulder in half, and cracked his arm in 3 other spots, and dislocated his shoulder, and tore a bunch of cartilage, so it was pretty nasty! We did bring him a copy of the Book of Mormon to keep reading, and taught him about our favorite scripture stories and why.  He even had a favorite story which I thought was pretty cool.  His favorite one was about Joseph Smith having the First Vision. Jason loves that experience so much!  Now we are working on getting him baptized, but that will be a process.  He is a great guy though.

Okay, Running low on time so That is all I got this week :)

August 27,2016

These last few days (since this is my second email this week)  have been decent.  Nothing too crazy going on, just the usual of a few lessons with Jason and a few with whoever else will let us in.  We made huge progress with Jason this week!! We have almost taught him all of the lessons, but one that we had not gotten to yet was Law of Chastity, and that is something that he has struggled with for 35 years.  So he has a way hard time we could say.  but he asked us to teach him something that we had not taught him yet, and Elder Graves had a LOC pamphlet in his bag!  So we pulled that out and decided that is what we were going to teach.  It wasn't what we had planned, but the Spirit directed that lesson more than I have ever before experienced.  And it all started with my studies and Elder Graves studies that morning.  I had planned on studying accountability, but ended up feeliing like I should study some of Genesis about Adam and Eve, so I did.  I wasn't really sure why, or what I needed to know that about, but it came in perfectly with our lesson.  I was able to use what I had studied and apply it to Jason perfectly for his needs and concerns, as well as keep it simple and help him understand the magnitude and importance of living the LOC.  At the very end of the lesson, we both were able to bear very powerful testimony of the blessings that come with living this Law, and asked Jason if he would commit to living it.  Holy that was a suspenseful few minutes while he sat and thought about it! But we let the Spirit work in him, and he said he knew that this is what he needed to do, so he committed to live a chaste life.  That was one of the highlights of my mission, because prior to this lesson, he had been telling us that he would never be able to give it up, that it was too hard.  but now, he is ready to truly apply the Atonement and begin to change his life forever.  We are so excited for him!

That is all that was exciting from this week.  We did get some sad news though, Elder Graves Grandfather passed away yesterday so he and his family are having a really hard time. If you could keep them in your prayers, I am sure that they would appreciate that.

August 22, 2016

AHH, I am running out of time so this will be a super fast weekly email, This week was a dang good one. Nothing over the top or spectacular, but we got a lot of work done! I had my birthday also which was a plus for sure! It was such a fun time.

On my birthday, we went over to teach Jason again too, which is such an awesome experience each time. But on my birthday he gave us a dang good reeses cake, and a ton of cookies and cream Ice cream! oh man it was good. I am gonna be one of the guys that comes home like 45 pounds fatter for sure! hahaha that's no bueno!
Anyways, along with that, we had one of the best district meetings that I have had as a District Leader this week, and I am so grateful for that. There is a companionship in my district that is not being obedient at all right now, and it is starting to get to some of the other companionships. So we had a great discussion during that meeting on faith and obedience and how they work hand in hand. In the end, it lead to me studying something, and I am going to continue to study it. The topic I have been studying is "Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of Heaven." Man that is a cool topic let me just tell ya. Give me another week to really study and ponder and pray and I will report on some cool stuff that I find and learn. Studying really is one of my favorite things in the world.
Also, I think that we hit monsoon season here in Michigan! We got slammed by some rainstorm that came up from Louisiana, and there were a couple tornadoes all around us. It was awesome, and luckily God provided that we had no time knocking that day because of service and lessons, so the only times that we had to walk, it was not raining. Definitely a tender mercy! The mornings are starting to get cold, and man that makes me excited. SEND THE SNOW AGAIN!!! Hahahah, but sorry I have such short time today, that's all I can write about! Thanks for all the b day wishes! :)

August 15, 2016 - Turning 20 years old this Week!!

Here in the K Zoo there was a lot of disappointment this week.  We had a lot of lessons planned this week that fell through one by one.. We ended up with only 3 lessons this week :/  Two with Jason, and one with our friend Missy.  I want to talk some about the lesson that we had with Jason just last night.  I can't begin to express my love for Jason.  Teaching him has been a time that I have truly been able to feel Heavenly Father's love for someone.  It's crazy.  But as we were talking with him yesterday, we got to ask him some really sweet questions.  Just simple questions actually, but what they led into was sweet.  We asked about  why he wants to know if the Book of Mormon was true.  He answered that his whole life he has just wanted to know the truth, and he has been searching for it for a really long time.  He wants to know if the Book of Mormon is true, because he knows that if it is, then he has finally found the truth he has always sought for.  We were then able to relate his story back to Joseph Smith's, and how he was on the same hunt for the truth.  from there, we went into what it takes on our part to find the truth, and read from Moroni 10:3-5.  As we read it with him, and discussed how he can find the truth, I was able to bear my testimony on how I found it, and how it had changed who I am today.  The Spirit was very powerful during that time, and Elder Graves was able to bear his testimony as well.  That just brought the Spirit more into the lesson, and Jason told us that he could feel from the Holy Spirit that what we are teaching him is true, and he wants to change his life from his old ways.  It will be a long rocky road with him, but he is awesome.  His faith is strong, and just continues to grow.  But that was most definitely a highlight from this week.

We also had Half mission P Day! I almost forgot about that!!  Man that was fun.  WE got to go up to Grand Rapids and have a huge party on Thursday.  There were a few Elders that used to play rugby (they were all super good)  so we got a little game of rugby going on, played some water kickball, had tug o wars, and played football.  It was great.  I have rope burn all around my waist from being the anchor during tug o war against two offensive linemen,  bad idea.  Still fun though ;) sorry, I forgot my camera at the apartment again so I have no pictures again... But the Church is true!! Don't forget it :)

Tell everyone that I love them!

As for my week, this one was a lot more eventful than last!  Thank goodness.  This week we taught more investigator lessons than I have on any other week of my mission, and we picked up 4 new investigators that are pretty solid!  The two that I want to bring up today are a couple named Stephanie and Don.  We were out door knocking last week, and they were sitting on their front porch so obviously we approached them to invite them to learn.  We struck up a casual conversation with them, and in the course of the conversation, a very vital concern came to light.  Stephanie told us that she felt like she didn't know her purpose on this earth, so we told her that is one of the many things that we help people come to understand.  She was intrigued and told us we could have one shot at teaching her, so we scheduled for later in the week.  We showed up, got to know them some more, and taught them the Plan of Salvation with an emphasis on the purpose of life.  It was SWEET.  Her and Don both continued to ask awesome questions that lead us straight to the rest of the lesson.  At the end we asked her if she felt like she understood her purpose now, and she told us she now understood why God had placed her here, and then came the money question: She asked, "so what do I need to do to prepare myself to meet God?"  And that lead us perfectly to explaining that we teach people the commandments that God has given us as revealed to prophets, and this "one time lesson" turned into a return appointment to continue teaching.  It was really cool to see how all of her concerns will be addressed through the revealed truths that we have.  It was another testament to me that everyone needs the Gospel, whether they know it now or not.  We just need to help them understand why they need it.

We picked up a couple other investigators like them, and will continue to teach them this coming week.  I will letcha know how those go next Monday!  One person that I do want to report on today is our investigator Jason.  HE is such a stud muffin.  He is fresh out of prison, I think I told you that earlier, but he has progressed so much in the few weeks that we have met with him.  I have never worked with someone who has applied the Atonement so much in just a few short weeks.  He has a lot of super hard struggles, but he has seen the Atonement already giving him strength to stand up and be better.  It's amazing honestly.  He has some of the best understanding of the Bible that I have ever seen as well, which has been super cool as well.  I prefer to do most of my teaching out of the Book of Mormon to help people recognize it as the word of God, and so they can find answers in it on their own after we leave,  but everything that we teach, he accepts as true because he can find evidence for a lot of it in the Bible!  That's been cool because most people use the Bible strictly  to bash with us.  Which btw is useless.  They only read the parts they want to.  But that is a story for another day.  Jason is just the coolest.  I love him to death.  He is even making me a birthday cake next week hahahah.  I took some pictures with him, but I left my USB and my camera in the car so I am going to send all my pics next week.  Sorry.

Finally, in news for the next few days, Thursday is half mission P Day in Grand Rapids.  That will be fun.  And I get to do trade off's with the Zone Leaders tonight so that is always a party.  That is a glimpse into next weeks email! Enjoy the Sneak Peak!  The Church is true.  And just like we were able to teach Stephanie this week, the whole purpose of this life is to prepare ourselves to meet God.  We don't have a long time to do it, so this is the time to learn and grow and change!  Always do your best to choose the right, because really that is all that matters.  Becoming as perfect as we can now is all that matters.  So go do it ;)

Sad to hear about my chickens tragic death.  Good thing we have the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation!  Joseph Smith said that animals go to the Celestial Kingdom, so they're golden.  We will see them again. lol.

Anyways, I am running out of time!  For some reason everyone and their dog decided to email me this week, so here is the skinny!  Elder Graves is a stud.  He is learning and progressing way faster than I did as a new missionary, and being able to see him change has been so awesome.  It is so rewarding being a trainer!  A little stressful, but it's all worth it!  He and I are finally building up the teaching pool here in Kalamazoo again.  We are finally up to 6 investigators (which this area hasn't seen in a while!)  and all of them are pretty awesome.  The top investigators right now are Tiffany,  and a guy we knocked into named Jason.  Jason had us over for dinner and a lesson last night, and it was one of the best lessons that I have been a part of.  We went over the Plan of Salvation with him, and he loved it.  As we talked about our purpose here on earth, and how it is a time to prepare to meet God, he went on a rant about how grateful he was for modern prophets to help us be prepared.  He has only met with us twice, and his testimony is already growing and developing!  It was awesome to see.  And his food was bomb, even though he was a vegetarian.  No judgments though ;)  He is at a pretty low point in his life right now, and he repeatedly tells us how he is already seeing a difference in his life as he has read the Book of Mormon and prayed about the things that we teach.  He is letting himself be changed by the message of our Savior, which is the point of this whole Gospel!  I can't even explain how great it is to watch it change those around us.  We are blessed more than we sometimes realize.

Oh Speaking of investigators, we are about to have 8.  Because (drum roll please).......... CAROL AND JESSIE ARE MOVING TO KALAMAZOO!!!!!!!  Carol showed up to church this Sunday and told me that she is moving here at the beginning of September!!!! She still hasn't been baptized, so I will get to work with her once again, and man am I excited to do that.  Those two are some of my favorite people in Michigan.  I was so happy when she told me this, and what a surprise it was to see her again!

In other News, Elder Graves and I went out to a little town called Galesburg (about 10 miles outside of Kzoo)  to work with some less active members and do some door knocking.  While we were out there,  all of our rides bailed on us.  two days in a row.  So we got to walk all the way home from Galesburg twice this week, so my feet are still a little sore hahahaha.  But we got some good ol pictures from it.  I will have to attach those on here too.  Memories amirite?

We also had a big ward bbq this week!  It was supposed to be at this park downtown, but this is monsoon season or something in Michigan, because we had flash floods like 3 times this week.  But back to my point, the bbq got moved to the stake center to get us all out of the rain.  Elder Graves and I went and helped do the cooking and we also made some pies for a pie contest.  Guess who won??!  NOT US!! hahahah we actually placed last and second to last.  Whatever, I liked my pie.

Anyways, I think that is the major events of the week.  I am sure I will have more for ya next week ;)

July 25, 2016 - First Week as a DAD

I can't believe that another week has come and gone.  This one was packed full of new adventures!  It all began on a cold dark Monday morning.  Just kidding it was a pretty normal morning.  Humid as heck and warm.  But on that monday morning Elder Quintana and I drove to the stake center to drop him off at the transfer van.

The van got there at about 9:30 and my boy Elder Gibby was on the van!  It was so good to get to see him before he heads up North for a few transfers.  I love that guy!  But we loaded up all of Elder Quintanas stuff and got them on the road before going to work.  Elder Fluckiger and I were together for most of the day since both of our companions got transfered, so we spent the day knocking on some doors in my area.  After a few hours of that we met up with the Zone Leaders who we then went on splits with to get some other stuff done.  After another few hours driving to different areas with Elder Turley and Elder Julander,  we headed back to the church to wait for the transfer van to be back with our new or temporary companions.  I met up with Elder Brienholt and that night him and I drove to Battle Creek to work for a couple days until we had to go get our trainees in Lansing.  It was fun getting to go in and whitewash an area.  There was so much work to do and we got the ball rolling for him and his boy.  It was a blast.

One thing that Elder Brienholt taught me while we were together was how to play pokemon, and now there is an Elder in my district who plays, and now I am a nerd on p days.  We seriously have pokemon tournaments.  Don't judge us for being nerds, but hey my b day is in a few weeks so don't be scared to send me some good cards.  Preferably electric or fire.  Just throwing that out there hahahaha :)

Anyhow back to serious business!  I loved Elder Brienholt.  Me and him had a blast for sure.  But we drove to Lansing together on Thursday to get our boys, and that was an exciting time.  We all lined up across the gym from each other, trainers on one side trainees on the other.  Then President Jacobsen handed out little programs with who our sons would be, and on the count of 3 we all opened them to see who we got.  I got a big boy!

His name is Elder Graves.  He is from San Jose Cali, and loves to surf.  He also loves to work which is exactly what I hoped for, cuz I am putting him to work you better believe it!  In the two working days that we had, we were able to teach 6 lessons and pick up 2 new investigators.  I know that doesn't sound like a ton, but that is more than any week last transfer, so we were really happy to get things here in Kalamazoo going again.  The Ward loves us now too.  His personality is great to interact with the members and I think between us and the Spirit, we can get the whole ward involved in Missionary work again.  that is our goal because this ward is pretty weak right now.  Man I am excited to help Elder Graves progress as a missionary.  We have a ball together, and we have our shoulders to the wheel!  He is a stud.

But overall, that was this week.  We didn't knock into any Satan Worshipers again, and we didn't do anything stupid so that's good ;)  This is gonna be a good transfer.  Just to wrap up this email, I want to talk about the importance of the Sacrament.  As I have been out for the last few months, I have had a lot of time to think and study and pray about the Sacrament.  It really is a blessing that we have like none other.  As I have spent more time making sure that I am prepared for Sacrament meeting in every way, the lifestyle of my mission has changed.  I used to look forward to p-day each week, but now I look forward to being able to partake of the Sacrament.  The Spirit that comes as we worthily partake of the Bread and Water truly will cleanse us of our sins, and as we pray each week to know what to do better in the coming week, we will receive personal revelation as to how we can improve.  I know that is true, I am so grateful for the Sacrament and what it means to all of us.  I hope that you take the time to really think about what the Sacrament is, why we have it, and how it can help you.  Understanding the what why and how of anything is so important.  So this week, think about it, then go partake of it this Sunday.  IT'll bless ya :)

July 16, 2016

Oh man, another transfer has already come and gone.  It's flying way too fast for my liking! I still have a lot of stuff to get done, and not very much time to get it done!!!  But to start things off, why not let ya know what is happening after transfer calls?!  Here is the news:  Elder Quintana is going way up North to a small branch in Alpena, he will be serving with Elder Allred.  I will be in Kalamazoo for another 6 weeks serving with (drumroll please) ................ UNKNOWN!! Hahahahahah I will be training a new missionary this transfer, so I will not know who he is until next Thursday.  So I can give you a little more info about him on my next P Day which will be Monday the 25th of July!  Man it's gonna be exciting/scary to be a trainer.

Anyways, besides getting transfer calls, there was a few other exciting things this week that I got to be a part of.  The best one for me, was in a lesson with our investigator Tiffany.  Tiffany is married to a less active member, but we home teach her husband.  One day, the missionaries before I got here asked Tiffany if she would be interested in learning more about the church! She accepted, and now for the last couple of months has been reading the scriptures, praying, she has been to church, and is now preparing herself to be baptized.  We hadn't seen her in a few weeks due to her work schedule, and then they went to Washington DC for a week, so the lesson that we had with them was sort of a goal setting lesson.  We went in and talked with her about why all these changes that she was making were important to her and why she wanted to get baptized.  As we talked, the Spirit was with us, and she was able to bear her testimony to us of Priesthood authority, and why she wanted to be baptized by someone who held that proper authority.  The best part of the lesson however, was after we had recommitted her to do all these different things to be ready for baptism.  Her husband all of a sudden chipped in and said, "I want you to be baptized as well so that in a year, we can go to the temple and be sealed for time and all eternity not just til death do us part.  I want to be with you forever."  It was a moment that hit us all in the feels, and we then set that goal with them to be prepared to go to the temple.  They have been on this path for a while now, and I can't wait to see where their relationship goes as they receive the blessings of the Gospel.  "Happiness in Family Life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.”

~ The Family: A Proclamation to the World ~

That is what we are helping them achieve.  It's the bomb.

Oh yea, random side note about them, this week is their one year anniversary, so for a gift, Tiffany got Darren a huge smoker, and they are going to have us over for smoked beef brisket soon.. I am stoked.

Something that wasn't quite as big of a highlight, more of a strange lesson, was a lesson that we had with a guy named Wes.  So in the MLM we have a term for specific kinds of people in Michigan, we call them "Ganders." Now, whatever you just pictured when you heard that, you are probably right.  There are no other people like ganders.  Wes is the embodiment of Gander.  Anyways, we showed up for a first lesson with him, and there were 6 random other people there.  Wes called them his "Board of Trustees" It was a crazy lesson.  We taught them the Restoration, and the board was divided.  Some of them for us, some against,  It was super weird.  We taught him a second time without the board and he went on a Gander Rant for over an hour so we just had to leave.  It was interesting for sure.

Overall, it has been another good week.  There will be a lot of learning experiences to come, but I am excited for them!  No better place to keep learning than here on a mission.  I don't know how much it shows through emails, but looking back over the last 8 months, I have learned so much.  My understanding of the Gospel has deepened and solidified.  I absolutely love the Gospel and all the changes that it brings to those who are willing to act on the principles it encompasses.  I know it's true.  I know that Heavenly Father is watching over each and every one of us, and is there ready to grant us the blessings that we need and want, all He is waiting for is obedience, and to ask for His help.  How blessed are we to have His guidance in our lives? Whether it be from a modern day Prophet, or through our own personal study and prayer.  We are so blessed.  Do not take these things for granted!

July 11, 2016

Everyone thinks that I am training next transfer so I will have to set up a temple trip with my Greenie. In Kalamazoo we are close enough to the Chicago Temple that we can go there, so I would love to go to that one! I will have to figure it all out. Transfer calls are this friday so I am excited to see what will happen around here! It's gonna be a pretty new District I think! I am pumped for it.

Well, once again this was a stellar week here in the MLM! Kalamazoo is apretty sweet area I must say. Just to start off, I want to once again bear my testimony of fasting! As I think I mentioned in my last email, Elder Quintana and I have been losing a lot of our investigators! For some reason, they just drop off the face of the Earth and we can't seem to get a hold of them anymore. And we were not finding many people that were interested for some reason despite our best finding efforts. So about a week and a half ago, we decided to go to The Lord in fasting and prayer to ask for a blessing of more investigators. The Lord does provide! This week we got more lessons and more solid potential investigators than any other week this transfer. The average for potentials is about 1 out of every 12 people that you talk to in this area, and this week we got 1 out of every 6. Blessings, blessings, blessings. The power fasting has is more than we realize sometimes, and it should not be taken for granted. If you go to the Lord with a purpose, tell Him what that purpose is, ask for help, and start a fast, He will provide! I absolutely know that He will, I have seen it time and time again on my mission. Heck we had an Elder break his foot last week, and we fasted and prayed for him, and his foot is no longer broken. I know the power in these acts is there, we just need to use them and be worthy of the help of heaven. It's sweet.

Along with those miracles, we had the baptism of our investigator Maria Lino. It was one of the sweetest things that I have ever seen. She has one of the strongest testimonies of anyone that I have ever met. There are only a select few that are as humble and faithful as she is. She has gone through a lot to get to this point, and now her goal is to take her mothers name to the Temple to be baptized for her. I wish that you could meet Maria, because she just makes your day. When she was baptized, the Spirit that was there was so strong, and as she bore her testimony to everyone there afterwards, I was touched by the Spirit. She absolutely loves the Gospel. The day after her baptism, I got the opportunity to confirm her a member of the Church and give her the Gift of the Holy Ghost. That was a really cool experience as well. You know how much I love giving blessings, because I talk about them all the time, and this was an especially sweet blessing knowing how great of a gift The Holy Ghost is to me. Man, I just love her!!!! I will put the picture of us at her baptism, and just a warning I look super awkward in it. But oh well, what's new right?;)

We also had a Zone Conference this week! Those are always super cool too. I got to see my dad Elder Tindall! It was good to see him after a while, and see how he is doing. He is currently with my MTC companion Elder Stephens so that was kind of funny to see! They are both great Elders too. Zone Conference was another testimony builder for me, because I had been praying about a few specific things that I want to improve as a missionary, but I wasn't sure how to improve them! It had been frustrating me because I felt like I had been trying super hard. Then at zone conference, the exact things that I had been praying for help with got discussed in depth. I know that as I apply these things that I learned from the Assistants and the Spirit, I will continue to become the missionary and the person That my Father in Heaven wants me to be! I love serving my mission. Sometimes I wish that time would slow down because before I know it It's going to be December again. That is not good!!! I have too much to do still!!!! I want to get one more Baptism before that time of year comes again, so pray for me! I need help to reach that goal, but it's something I feel like I can do with the help of Heavenly Father.
That's all I got for ya this week. It was a good one that's for sure! I hope that you have a great week as well!! My challenge to you this week is to prayerfully seek out one thing that you can work on to feel the Spirit more in your day to day life. Elder Bednar spoke at this last Conference about "Always Retaining a Remission of our Sins." That is something that I have thought a lot about since then, and the only way to retain that remission is to constantly have the cleansing of the Holy Ghost. I am so grateful for the guidance it gives me, for the way it makes me feel each and every day. What a blessing it is to us. Seek it out, do all that you can to feel it every day. That is how we know that what we are doing ispleasing to God. Will you do that? Good.

The Gospel is awesome. Who wouldn't want to be a part of it?

never can decide where to start when writing about my week.  There is always so much that goes on, and I can never fit it all in.  But anyhow, at the beginning of the week, Elder Quintana and I were getting pretty frustrated with the work here in Kalamazoo.  We had to drop a lot of investigators this last week, and we just couldn't seem to be finding anyone who was willing to have us back and see what the Gospel has in store for them!!!!  so on Thursday night we decided to begin a fast to find some new investigators.  THE LORD DOES PROVIDE ANSWERS!!!!  The days following that fast began to be filled with potential investigators, lessons out of the blue beginning to fill this coming week, and we became the answer to many peoples prayers last week.  It was an awesome thing to be a part of.  There really is so much power in faithful fasting and prayer.  I am way excited to go back and meet with these individuals now.

Along with finally finding success in door knocking, I had the opportunity to conduct a baptismal interview with a young man named Bryan Bradshaw as well.  Bryan is such an awesome guy, and the Spirit that came as he bore his testimony to me during the interview was so powerful.  It was truly something that I was blessed to be a part of, and I pray that my District gets more baptisms soon so I get to do more of those!  His Baptism was on Saturday and our investigator Maria came to see how it goes.  After the service, we got to talk to Maria for a few minutes about her baptism this coming Saturday!  We are in the process of making a program for hers, and man we are pumped for her.  She honestly is like no other investigator that I have ever met.  She is an awesome lady.  I am sure there will pictures from it next week.

There was a little bit of a lack of lessons this week, so honestly there isn't much else that was super cool to report on.  I am starting to get another one of my best friends here in Michigan though.  He is an Elder in my District named Elder Banham.  He and I got to go on exchanges this week, and we had such a great time.  We stayed up a little too late talking about life and getting to know each other, and he is such a great guy.  We got tight super fast.  But yesterday for the Fourth Elder Banham Elder Fluckiger Elder Quintana and I drove down to South Haven with a few other missionaries.  South Haven is so sweet.  It is a little beach town right on the edge of Lake Michigan (which looks like a freaking ocean).  We met up with a less active member there, and he brought us all to a park where we played football, rugby, cornhole, and he did a huge bbq for us all.  It was so much fun.  And seeing the Great Lakes made me love Michigan so much more hahahaha.  On the way back from South Haven, I was driving and Elder Banham was riding shotgun with the other two in the back seat.  Elder Banham was DJ-ing on my MP3 player, and he started playing "I'll make a Man out of You" from Mulan, and me and him JAMMED.  It was super funny, and me and him bonded a little more over that.  I think the other two think we are weirdos but I don't give a care it was one of my favorite memories so far.

But really that is my week!  I know that fasting and prayer can bring about miracles.  Those two things teach us to look past the temporal and rely on the Spiritual, which is what we should all be doing anyways right?  I love the Gospel.  I can't even explain how many blessings I have because of it, and I love sharing it with those who haven't seen the blessings yet.  Happy 4th!

Love Elder Johnson

This week had some pretty fun stuff I must say!  It started off with one of the most Spiritual meetings that I have ever been able to be a part of.  On Tuesday, there was a meeting called MLC (mission leadership conference)  where all the Zone Leaders, District Leaders, and Sister Training Leaders meet together in Lansing with President Jacobsen and get specialized training to help our areas become better missionaries.  The Spirit there was amazing, and the topics that were discussed were truly what we all as leaders needed to hear.  I have gained such a strong testimony of Mission Presidents being inspired in the last few weeks.  It's pretty dang sweet.  That meeting really helped me to help my District, and the blessings from what we talked about are already flowing in.  Man it was cool.

After that Spiritual boost, I came back to Kalamazoo to go back to work.  We had a service opportunity that we worked hand in hand with some younger guys, and while we were working one of them asked us a lot about what we do as missionaries and also told us about some other service activities that we can get involved in in the community.  By the time we had to go, we exchanged information and invited him to learn more about our church.  He said that he hasn't been to church in a long time and he was thinking about getting back into it a lot lately! So if all goes well, we will do some more service with him in the next few weeks and begin to teach him.  The Lord provides ways to teach and find in many ways my friends!

Along with these meetings, and finding, and serving, and a few lessons with Maria and some other people, we had one day of literally 8 hours of knocking on doors.  I must say that was the hardest day on my mission! Just keeping the motivation to do that all day was rough.  It was super hot, nobody was having it, and it just seemed miserable at first!  But some great things happened along the way.  We met some very prepared people in the last hour of that day, so that was a great testimony to me about the importance of having diligence.  Not giving up when we get tired, only stopping when the work is done.  I also knocked into some Jehovah's Witnesses and was able to get their version of the bible!  Now I have a bible with the Apocrypha and the New World Translation!  Now I need to get a Torah and a Q'ran!  At the end of this long day, I got some really great news though that also made me feel better.  A companionship of Sisters in my District is having a Baptism this weekend, so as the District Leader, it is my responsibility to interview Bryan for his Baptism.  I am so excited to do this.  One of my favorite things to do with investigators is go over the interview questions with them and hear their testimony, so to be able to do it for the actual interview will be amazing I am sure.  One of the blessings of this calling!

That is all that I can think of for this week.  It was overall a really good week, and my testimony continued to grow throughout it.  I know that Joseph Smith was a Prophet inspired of God to Translate the Book of Mormon.  The Book of Mormon is the word of God and it will bring the Spirit into our lives if we just study it for whatever amount of time we can whether that is 2 hours that missionaries have set aside, or 5 minutes that you can squeeze into your lunch break, the peace and love that the Spirit brings will come if you study the Book of Mormon.  Howard W. Hunter said that the Scriptural field is "White already to harvest."  That is the truth.  There is so much for us to learn and so much we need to know to become converted that is found in the Book of Mormon and the Bible.  Don't take these blessings for granted.

So here is the skinny: Elder Quintana is a great guy.  A little high strung and jumpy, but he is a good Elder.  He know how to teach, he knows how to work, and he knows how to make me laugh.  So I can work with him.  He is from Washington, and he likes to solve Rubiks Cubes! In fact today we are going on a hunt for a 9x9 that he can get.  That would be sweet.

That's about all I got on him, for myself, this was another good week.  There was the usual tough spots of door after door being shut in our faces before we could even tell them the good news that we have, but That is part of life.  2 Nephi 2.  All these trials help us see how good the good in life really is, so it's whatever.  I was pretty dang stressed about being a District Leader too.  I felt like I had no idea what to do in that calling, and I am the youngest Elder in this district besides Elder Quintana.  So I felt very overwhelmed by that last week. Luckily, I survived my first District Meeting! I did a training on recognizing the Spirit more, and how we can use that to Discern investigators needs.  It went much better than I thought it was going to (especially since you know how much I love talking in front of people) and I think that everyone learned at least one thing from it.  That small success makes me way excited to do District Meeting this week about Developing Christlike Attributes.  I'll let you know how that goes next time hahahaha.

After that Meeting, I had another cool teaching opportunity this week as a DL.  Every Sunday, I do "Call Ins" where I call all the companionships in the District, gather their numbers for the week, and see what goals they want to work on for the coming week.  Some of the Sisters in my District had a question about finding people to teach, but due to time and more call ins that I had to do, I couldn't answer it right then.  Once I finished all the other calls, I called those sisters back and set up to meet them outside their apartment and we could do some practice finding and help them improve it.  We drove over and just talked to the Sisters a little about why they were stressed and what they wanted to work on, and from there we practiced over and over again until they felt more confident in finding people to teach, and how to get them interested.  Elder Quintana and I said bye, and went to do some home teaching.  After home teaching, we went back to the apartment to have our dinner, and we got a phone call from these Sisters.  They told us a pretty awesome miracle.  So the whole reason they asked me about how to improve their finding, is because the were not getting any new investigators, nobody would accept or set up return appointments. But in this phone call, they told me that they had just gone finding and they had talked to only 7 people.  Of those 7 people, 4 accepted to learn more of the Gospel and set up return times right then.  That was so awesome to hear! I was so so so happy for them.  It was a really cool teaching moment, and allowed all of us to grow, then thank Heavenly Father for the help that he gave us.

Now to a whole different subject,  I haven't talked to much about Maria, but she is so awesome.  She is one of our investigators here who is going to be baptized on July 9th.  She has one of the strongest testimonies of anyone that I have ever met! She loves church, she has finally found the peace that she has always searched for in the Gospel.  She even hands out copies of the Book of Mormon to her family and friends, and now some of them are reading from the BOM with her!  None of them are super interested now, but the seed has been planted.  This week we had a lesson with her about the 10 commandments.  Usually that lesson is just kinda rote and a lesson that we have to do to check it off since everyone here knows the big 10, but this lesson was different.  I don't remember what exactly we said or what we were even talking about, but as we bore testimony to her of God's love for us, and the importance of keeping the commandments, and she told us some of her experience with the commandments, The Spirit really touched us all.  It was a really awesome lesson that I got to be a part of, and I am so thankful for each lesson that I have my tongue loosed and I get to teach the Gospel.  It is like nothing else!

One last update before I wrap this up,  we are also working with a Part Member family.  In the Mazza family, the husband is a less active, and the wife is a super solid investigator.  She is also going to be baptized here in July!  But for this lesson, we could only meet with the husband, Tiffany was out of town for work (they both work for the National Guard).  As we met with Derrin we set goals for him and his wife to do baptisms for the dead when she has been baptized, and he was pretty excited about that.  He has never had the chance to do that before!  Also, we invited him to prepare himself to baptize Tiffany.  We felt like that was something that would really bring them together in this process.  Usually Derrin is a super sarcastic, laid back, joking kinda guy, but as we brought up these serious goals, and invited him to repent and be ready for her baptism, he humbly accepted, and I believe that he will do it.  He is a great guy and we are very excited for him and his wife! What a blessing for them to do this, and eventually be sealed.

I love the Gospel, being able to have this calling is amazing.  The way that Heavenly Father can work through us to help those around us blows my mind every day.  There are miracles all around us each and every day, no coincidences.  Watch for them, pray for them, and give thanks for them.  I can promise you that if you do that, You will be more happy in your day to day routines.  You will find opportunities to share your testimony, and you will be blessed just for recognizing God's hand in your life.  He is always there, He always loves you.  God never loses sight of our eternal potential, even when we do.

Love,
Elder Johnson

P.S My camera is still busted so IDK what to do for that... and I love you :)

This email will probably be all over the place. I am still kinda overwhelmed being in a new area with a greenie comp and trying to lead a district.  So here it is!  I finally got out of Midland, and it is kinda weird to be honest. Kalamazoo is so much different than Midland.  Definitely not as safe as Midland was lol.  Kalamazoo is great though.  It reminds me a lot of a mini Seattle!  The downtown area here has a lot of cool old buildings, a ton of brewery's, a really nice library, a few gang shootings, and a grip of Range Rovers.  What else can you ask for?!  And the best part, every one in Kzoo has awesome sounds systems.  So I hear a lot of people bumpin.

The District here is sweet too.  We have 4 Elders and 4 Sisters, plus the Zone Leaders.  I love all these missionaries too.  There is going to be some sweet work getting done in the next few weeks just you wait and see.  There are a lot of very prepared investigators and part member families that are becoming full member families here very soon. Like the beginning of July soon!  One of the investigators that we are working with right now is named Maria.  She has such a strong testimony already it is awesome.  She already calls her self Mormon, and she asked us for some Spanish Book of Mormon's that she can hand out to her family!  What a stud amirite?  She is getting baptized here on June 25th!  The other person that is getting baptized in July is Tiffany Mazza.  Her husband is a member, and she has been investigating the church the last few weeks.  She is pretty much just as solid as Maria is!  Tiffany has some of the best scripture studies that I have ever seen!  And her understanding of the scriptures blows my mind.  It has been really cool to meet with her and watch her as the takes notes during lessons so she can study it all later!

Among these great, solid, prepared investigators, are a lot of crazy people.  In the last week, just while door knocking I got threatened with a gun, and twice that I was going to have pitbulls sicked on me. It is ridiculous.  I am just trying to make your life better people don't get your Panties in a bunch!!!!!!!  Some people.

One last thing that happened this week that was really cool.  I went on exchanges with the Zone Leaders this week, and I went to WMU Campus with Elder Dunn.  Serving on a campus is so sweet.  Him and I taught 6 lessons that day. 6 LESSONS! That is hard to do! hhahahahah at least around here it is.  And teaching students I can connect with them so so so well.  It is awesome how well it goes with students!  But yea.. Sorry this letter is so short but I don't even know what else to say! This week was a blurrrrrr!  I am sure I will get a better letter in next week.

Never forget that the Church is true!  The promptings of the Holy Ghost that we are entitled to as we live worthily truly keep us safe, and give us exactly what we need to say in the very moment that we need it.  Study hard, Teach hard, Play hard.

Love
